Me and two of my friends are planning to start a trucking company in a year or two. We are 21, and still saving the money. Is it worth it? Is this business still profitable in today's day and with today's economy. Is driving a truck a necessity to run a successful float of trucking haulers?

Uber actually would be a good way for someone young to get some experience on running your own vehicle, calculating expenses, breaking things down to CPM, learning how to maximize profits and you get to do this all with little risk.

I have ran the numbers for Uber and it is basically a minimum wage job for most, especially if you are trying to do it full time. There are a handful of locations where it can be a good PT gig with the right vehicle. There are several class action lawsuits against Uber right now saying they don't pay even minimum wage etc.....

If Lyft is available in your area, you will make more money per mile since their app is setup for drivers to receive tips (Uber is very anti tip), but they are usually not as busy compared to Uber so you won't make as much per hour.

Most drivers run for both Uber and Lyft at the same time.

Like a lot of IC type work, most people don't count all expenses and are clueless that they are incurring expenses they haven't paid for yet. They have some cash flow coming in so think they are making $$$$$$

You really need to learn at least a little about the business first.

What is a FLOAT OF TRUCKING HAULERS??? Driving may not be a necessity but knowledge surely is.

I would say the first step is being able to recognize the difference between a "fleet" and a "float" and/or the ability to proof read.
