Well, I should say I'm actually below rookie status haha. Anyway, hello to everyone here. I finally decided to get into the trucking game. I'm working on getting my CDL class A learner's permit. I'm studying the manual. After that, I want to go to a trucking school. I would like for a school or company that has paid training. Or something that's not too expensive(currently unemployed). Some regular driving schools here are ripoffs! I'm doing a lot of research and being very careful on what I choose. I'm from Westchester, NY and it seems like there isn't any good ones around here. Most of the schools are far lol. Of course I'll browse through here and search for info. But I would like some advice. What schools are good? I'm new to this. Thank you.
Rookie saying hello...

If you're willing to wait a few months local community colleges offer good programs sometimes costing under $1000.
The training is better the cost is less and you'll be a better driver. The downside is it takes around 3 months to get licensed.MooneyBravo and Orion78 Thank this. -
Can't help on the school choice as I'm way north of you.
All I can say is research and read as much as you can. Filter out the rhetoric and make your choice.
Best of luck!!

Because you're unemployed try the WIOA Program which will pay for private cdl school.
Google WIOA New York
Lots of paperwork involved and will take awhile to get started in school.
If you don't want to deal with that then apply to a few trucking company schools and take the best offer. Many pay for transportation to get to the school, usually bus or Amtrak plus provide hotel room and meals while in school.
Earl Henderson Trucking
Wil-Trans
Carolina Logistics
Millis Transfer
Western Express
Celadon
Roehl Transport
Lobos Interstate Services
Southern Refrigerated Transport
Maverick Transportation
Should be able to find something off this list you like. Apply to several at the same time.
You will need original birth certificate and original social security card that's not laminated.Orion78 and taxihacker66 Thank this. -

Thank you for the advice. I'll definitely look into that list and the program. I want to do something local but if I have to travel then so be it.
