Have you not been paid percentage? That's how I've always known what the going rates are.

There's so many variables when it comes to pricing it's not funny.

Thank you Hammer, this has been very interesting an at times entertaining read. I will be the first to admit I would not survive up at the top of the World. I'm from Southeast Louisiana, I would get out of the truck an instantly freeze to death, bloods way to thin. In other words I hate the COLD!!! And I'm happy to know I'm not the only one that has to deal with the voices from time to time. After one highly interesting move where everything that could go wrong did, I decided to poison pinhead killroy, but luckily I realized that might not be such a good idea.

You sir are a real Ice Road Trucker.

Ok, I have a math question, hope you can help HH - I am trying to determine if I can load a tracked drill rig on my set up without the jeep ( and I don't think I can), going into California. The rig weighs 79000 and is listed at 25 x 10 x 11 - I am going to assume the track length is probably around 12'.

here are my thoughts - normally I load by sight and then check scales.

my empty axle weights( 3 axle tractor 3 +2 60/40 split trailer) with the fifth wheel all the way forward on the slider - so I can take weight of the steer..

    17340
    25560
    16680
    12660

    total 72240

king pin to pivot point on the walking beam 51' - 26' well
    kp to first axle 36'

    axle max weight is

    18000
    46000
    60000
    40000
    total 164000

max on tractor would be 18+46 = 64

so available weight would be 64000-(17340+25560)= 21100
which leaves 79000-21100=57900 for the rear group

50/50 weight center on the trailer would be half of the 51' or 25.5' from the KP?

to split the weight the way I need, would I have to load the center of weight of the machine at 57900/79000 = 73% of the 51' or 37' from the KP

is this correct or did I mess something up?

if I didn't then if I put my axle down on my tractor would the math change to:

18+60=76 which would then allow 76000-(17340+25560)=33100
    leaving 45900 for the rear

33100/79000=41.8% or 23' from the neck

    sorry for the sloppy math

    Ron

For coffin trailers, use kingpin to trunnion shaft that the trailer pivots on, on the coffin.
With 21,100# of available payload carrying weight on the front end that is 21100/72240=.292 or 29.2%.
Flip your neck extension over to give yourself as much length as possible, (we talked on the phone, this measurement is 59'. So 59*0.708=41.772 or 41'10" from the trailer kingpin to the CG point for the load to sit.
With a 26' well, this is kind of tough.
I do like your ingenuity and willingness to look outside the box and try different things! Like I said before, you will do well, best of luck!

    Rontonio Thanks this.
