    Funny.

Did a quick search for the knot on youtube but cannot find it.

    I will try to explain.

    Rope hangs down.
At the rubrail you make a small loop in the rope.
Raise the loop about 2 feet up.
Lay it down on the rope and hold it with 1 hand.
With other hand take the hanging part and run 2 loops around the loop you are holding.
The second off those 2 loops has to be behind the first one.
And there can be no play in those 2 loops.
Thurn the long loop that you now have created half a twist.
Take what is hanging down and put it thru the long loop and behind the rubrail.
Then come back up and go thru the long loop.
Then pull down and use a simple knot to secure.

    Hope you understand

Pics of said knot? Id thought about tying a loop high, between grommet and rail, to run rope thru and tighten, anyone do that? I guess the last 2 years of sliding tarps spoiled me, lol..

This is close, but you can do the last hitch/s the same "bacic" way as the first.

Hook one end of tarp strap in grommet/D ring. Pull and hook the opposite end to a spot on the rub rail

    Maybe I'm overthinking it?

No,the way i was taught is nothing like in the video skellr posted.
Try undoing that knot on a cold rainy day, then you will see why that knot is so bad.
