My covered wagon had heavy rope ties every few feet down the entire left side of trailer. The idea being the entire tarp is one solid peice. You fold it over the left side and remove the necessary arches to drop steel coil or whatever by crane straight to the decking.
Bungees went on the right off the tarp hooks. Sometimes three bungees per hook was needed to hold it all in place out west when the winds wont stop blowing hard. Sometimes I toss several straps over the entire tarp the length of the trailer so it will stay in place against really strong winds.
Back to the left side. Those ropes had a half hitch knot on both the tarp loop and down on the decking loop. The harder the tarp wants off the harder the rope holds on through that type of knot that gets really tight.
I only untied the ropes on the entire left side once. And that was so the entire tarp could come off that trailer to be replaced with a new one due to wear and tear once a year.
Rope vs rubber tarp straps? Any tips and tricks?
