Rotella t5 instead of t4 (cannot find any)?

    Nope. Now if you switch weight that could happen, no idea on that one. Mine had 550k at the switch, went from 15w40 to 5w40, doesn't leak a drop.

    My dad always said switching from conventional to synthetic would cause it to spring leaks but I'm somewhat suspicious of that being an old wives' tale. I switched one of my trucks from whatever conventional garbage was in it when I bought it to Rotella T-6 and it never leaked the rest of the time I had it. It only had about 180,000 miles on it when I made the switch though so I'm unsure if that made a difference or what.

    1.5 mil going to leak either way short if a rebuild

    The rear structure, peanut cover, valve covers and oil pan just out of the blue started leaking simultaneously? No way. Also, unless it's an out of frame rebuild that rear structure doesn't get touched on an inframe.

    It was wore out, seals cracked, better oil found the holes.

    That has been my experience as well. Switched between conventional, synthetic blend and full synthetic all the time in my last pickup and that engine never leaked a drop of oil in over 300k km.
