Rough idle and Erratic cruise plus major bull gear problems 14 Liter S60. LONG, SORRY!

    Very strange.
    There are many 14.0 liters out there with near 2 million miles on them with no bull gear failure.
    Was there a problem with the bull gear bushing when they pulled it apart?

    That's a good question I'll have to find out. The first dealership replaced a mounting gasket on the power steering pump because it was leaking. Could the pump being reinstalled incorrectly cause gear teeth to be chipped? Not even sure if that runs directly on the bull gear or not.

    Yes the power steering / air compressor gear runs off the bull gear.
    Did the problem occur shortly after the power steering pump replacement?

    The engine timing sensor reads an "exciter" on the bull gear. This makes it possible that the bull gear failing could possibly cause your lopey idle. If the bull gear is wobbling, it will not give the timing sensor a true reading. This problem usually gives a timing sensor code though.

    You need to take truck to Det. shop not truck dealer shop, they work on det. motors every day?
