I been saving for about 2 1/2 years . Correct me if im wrong , but my plan was to finance my truck and trailer . I have good credit . The money i have save is about twelve thousand (hard work but it feels good to kno i did it) . This was going to be my back up. I already have a website being build (SEO FRIENDLY) and a couple of other marketing tools that will help me find customers. I register my company name .

Hell I've been in business for a year and I still get and am nervous I found out in this business anything that can go wrong with your equipment or load is only one mistake away from disaster. Focus is the key to being successful not just the money but focus and dependability.

I think by asking these questions and gathering as much info as you can you are headed in the right direction. Read some of my past posts, I started a year ago with a single trailer 1 car and a 1/2 ton pickup doing one car at a time and was told by many I will fail no way will I survive. Here I am a year later new truck new trailer, good reputation with brokers and finally seeing a profit. If I didn't ask questions do research and listened to half the negativity on here I would be broke and out of business. Never doubt yourself, this is a risky business and there is a lot of cutthroat guys out there. If you want to know the type of person I am send a PM to @ohiobred he will tell you the kind of person I am

You'd need enough funds to cover you till you start getting some income so you really need to sit down and calculate what your overheads would be day to day, week to week, and month to month even get an accountant to do a risk assessment if the figures add up and it looks like you can do it, then go ahead and make the move.

My wife & I are going to make the plunge shortly also...doing alot of research and contact work right now. Some savings...some borrowings...still debating on car carrier VS flatbed Hot Shot work. One thing we have decided on...it is scary diving into a self-proprietorship business but right now we both work 60 hr weeks in the transportation industry and makes lots of money for our bosses/owners and little for ourselves and with no ever guarantee of our jobs not disappearing one day...it seems only doctors and lawyers have "careers" and all the rest of us are here to do something until we're under the dirt....do what you can, when you can! ;-)

I'm already seeing alot of good folks in here...ready to help with great advice and I do appreciate your time and words. My wife & I have tried to talk with some hotshots we've seen at rest areas off of I-75 but it really depends on the character of the driver you speak to...most of what we got was, "You don't wanna do this job" replies... It's like anything else, if you put your mind, time and professionalism into your work, you will get noticed and get your returns...may take awhile, but keep on truckin' :D
