I am looking at a road trip that will take me through Washington on Saturday morning and back through on a Friday afternoon. Essentially I am trying to connect the I95 and I81. I was looking at using HWY15, I66 and HWY 234 to avoid the worst of Washington traffic. I was wondering if this is half decent option? Any insight would be helpful. Thanks.

You won't be going anywhere near DC due to the weather.

Saturday mornings are busy, but not terrible in normal weather. Problem is you're dealing with a horrible storm (this Saturday?). All major roadways will be cleared first, they have snow equipment, but they're not Wisconsin or Minnesota. It will take 2-3 days to clear the DC area in a severe storm. 234 and 15 are good arteries, but will not be given priority over the interstate.
In good weather, it's a good route. Friday afternoon - any time after 3pm is gridlock. That includes I66 between I81 and I495, I95 south to Lorton - or even Stafford. About 4pm you will see hwy 15 and VA 234 become mini parking lots. They'll be passable - but not awesome.
If possible, I suggest a reschedule that does not include a snowstorm or a Friday afternoon.
Sorry, Charlie.

My trip isn't for a number of weeks. Thankfully I won't be headed into that nasty storm.
miss elvee Thanks this. -
Then 15/234 is a good route and easy to follow. You should be fine.
