It would make sense if they loaded the trailer so that each stop is in ka-hoots with the next one !!! If you're P&D then I guess you would have to study the cotton-pickin manifest .....AND hope that the trailer is loaded accurately !! ....In order according to which stop comes next...should be the closest one that is in the tail of the trailer !! Get a local street map and study it and take a pen to some paper and do some pre-planning ! Just make sure you are aware and familiar with low underpasses and restricted routes !! It also would help if you arrive at each stop facing the right direction for the purpose of backing as easy as possible ! Especially if you have to back in directly off a busy street at rush hour !!

If it is a multi stop load routing the deliveries goes back to how it is loaded. Or your going to be finger printing alot of stuff you don't want or need to.

As far as local stuff when I worked inside some of the things I considered in routing was traffic, trying to keep the truck from making left turns in downtown rush.

Sometimes the south side of the street would be on a different truck than the north side just to make it safer and easier for the drivers and the public.

Everything makes a difference, the way I would route a OTR driver with a few stops vs a local truck with lot's of stops would be totally difference.

Weather would change how I would route a OTR truck, Traffic Patterns, everything changes everything. It all depends on the details.

But I would ride along with the drivers on the routes and use drivers input also. Anyway that was for Waste Management of Los Angeles, covering LA, Ventura counties.
