How much oil does it hold? Read in another thread a 9 speed takes 5 gallons 50 weight synthetic? How much is a bucket of that stuff roughly? Somebody said Eaton seems to work best for smoother shifting - who carries Eaton oil truck dealer, fleetpride, truck pro? What are some other good choices if no-one has it? Where do you guys get oil lines made locally? One of the approx 20" long lines from my transmission to the air cooler is leaking I need to get a couple of new ones made. Do local Napas make lines? Thanks

Should hold about 3.5 gallons, a little more if you have a PTO. If you look at the fill plug it should have a tag around it if it originally had synthetic oil in it. It is up to you what you want to run. "Normal" transmission oil is 80/90 gear and synthetic would be 50w. Fleetpride or any dealership should have it, even my local NAPA has 5 gal buckets of either one. My local NAPA can make hoses, but if you go to amost truck dealers you can buy braided line (also used for fuel lines) and buy the 2 peice reuseable ends so you can "make" your own hoses.

Don't run 80-90 gear lube, you will ruin the tranny, all Eaton's are 50w, you need to run an approved oil by eaten, road ranger.com has all the specs you need. Mobil or shell or any other brand, as long as it meets there specs, It will say on the bucket meets road ranger number## specs, look it up on the site, I just changed mine with Mobil synthetic and it took around 32 pints, 15 speed, 38 pints in a bucket , around 200 bucks, go to any gas & oil distributer

Im running 90w in a Roadranger and a Rockwell, hasn't ruined our transmissions, ones @ 300K and the other is at 750K Shifts smooth and far from worn out. If you want to go synthetic then go for 50w

What do you all think was used before synthetics were invented? We have gotten so used to hearing that synthetics must be used or the trannys will come apart that everybody just goes with it.

I prefer synthetics in the gearboxes picked up a bucket of Delo 50w synthetic for $195 at a local oil distributor. Maybe when this "heat wave" comes thru over the weekend I'll crawl under and gitrdone been way too cold for that the past couple of days :-/ Roadranger website told me everything I needed thanks for the headsup.

DO NOT put 80w90 differential oil in an eaton trans, unless you are stupid enough to run it in you engine. SAE 50 aviation oil is the conventional lubricant that works in eaton syncro packs, 80W90 gear oil is made for hypoid differential gears. Some syncro clutch paks will live with diff oil, but it is the same viscosity and costs about the same as conventional Sae 50. Almost any 9 series roadranger would have been filled with synthetic 50 from the factory, a pail is not that expensive and it have twice the change interval recommendation.

We used 50w rotella. Changed it every 60k switched to synthetic went to 300k. 80 90 also will inhibit range shift in cold climates.
