Whoops, I purchased hose lengths, fittings, and wrap too soon. The Iowa 80 kit is cheaper than what I spent on parts. Can't return cut hose, but I guess I'll have a good system when I done making it. I'm going to return some brass quick connect fittings. DOT doesn't allow quick connect fittings on the air brake lines, from what I'm told. Anybody know differently?

The quick connect are those fittings for air tools, etc. which are easy to connect and disconnect. Are DOT approved fittings always stamped with DOT on them?

By quick connect are you referring to Parker Prestolok "quick connect" fittings like these?

If so these can be bought at any parker store DOT approved.

But if your talking about these then I'm not sure.

I know people who use them (mainly the people who run the air lines out the back of the truck frame and under the trailer) and the DOT hasn't said anything but if their legal I have no idea.

I've never seen those Parker fittings before. What does the female connector part look like?

Yes, those other generic quick connect for tools and such are frequently used by truckers, so I'm told by sales associates at my local Clutch & Brake Exchange store. But, some local haul trucks aren't so likely to be pulled in for a DOT brake safety inspection either. Many of these guys around Stockton spend their life driving without crossing a scale.

They're called "Prestomatic" and are more expensive than the normal compression fitting but worth every penny. No tools required, just push the air line in and your done. To remove you just push the collar in and pull, the higher the pressure the harder they grab.
