This is a reason drivers should not be stopped along the highway . FMCSR states an OOS driver cannot operate a CMV . Knowing there is a possibility a driver or vehicle could be placed OOS an LEO should stop a vehicle where it is in a safe location before the inspection.
If a driver is in violation and decides to take a nap on a ramp or shoulder it is understandable to have an LEO escort the driver to a safe parking area.

 

And the facilities are handy also in areas where there are not many truckstops or places to stop safely. You can find a scale most generally on any trip, easy in and out; so I think all scales should be mandatory to have them located there.

 

Any driver should have their truck stocked to survive three days if need be. You never know what will happen. Oos, weather, breakdown, stuck at a customer... Like a boy scout, be prepared! Then it isn't so bad.

 

Condo is absolutely right as usual. Peanut butter and jelly will last with refrigeration. spam also is a good choice. In sand hauling you can be in the middle of nowhere just to do your job ! just my two pennies

 

Oh, yeah. Pizza Hut, Jimmy Johns, chinese place, etc.

 

If you maintain your vehicle in the prescribed manner and do not violate the federal HOS regulations, then the question is moot.
If you choose to violate the law, then be prepared to sit somewhere other than Bellagio Hotel.

 

That's one thing a GPS is good for. I can't count the times I've pulled up local restaurants and ordered delivery. You usually get a response, "I never delivered to a truck before".
