Well.... lets see if I can give a short recap of the last couple weeks... the second truck I had broke down on the Grape Vine in So Cal on my way to Az, which is where i am tonight but a different load. The break down cost a couple days of down time via a motel room but all is good and they put me in a loaner for a few days. Although the loaner was a good truck altogether I must ay that I do not care for mid-roof cab freightliners, i am about 6'2 and you cant stand up in them (not good) less storage also. I have had a good run on miles this week and even with the break down last week mile were ok. headed for home on a load tomorrow to see new grand baby and maybe even another new one making 16 altogether![]()

I must say... that overall it was a good move for me to come drive for Schneider, there is as should be a bit of a learning curve with their way of doing things but nothing to difficult to grasp. The miles are getting better which is huge and the home time is great!

I am interested in hearing how things are going with you, I also drive a pumpkin. It took a little time to get use to the macro's but always seem to have a load waiting when I hit my delivery location, if not sooner.

I'm fixin to go to orientation in INdy in the next few weeks. I'm an owner op.
Did they close the WI terminals? where did they move their headquarters to?
how are their terminals anyways? I hear some people say they're real nice, other not so much -
I have not been to the Bulk terminals and have heard they leave a lot to be desired, ie. Houston, TX; Reserve, LA; not sure where the others are. Most of the general terminals, Dallas, TX; West Memphis, AR; Indy, I think a total of 26, but don't hold me to that...are pretty decent in my opinion. All have free showers, most have cafeterias, free Wi-fi in the yard as well as inside. As an IC (Independent Contractor) you can use all the normal things just like a company driver. Also you can fuel at the OC's (Operating Centers) with the price matching whatever is the cheapest fuel price in that particular state for the day. And at the OC's it does not charge your Comdata that $1 to use for fuel. -
I live near houston but since they only do choice leases orientations in NC or IN i'm headed up that way. I know the fuel discounts, I've hounded my poor recruiter on them. To be perfectly honest the fuel discounts are the main reason i'm doing this with the shop and parts discounts being second in line. I've always been alergic to big companies but my produce gig isn't keeping up with fuel prices and i'm begining to loose ground.
are the cafaterias any good? -
I've had better, but they're handy, although I always thought a bit on the expensive side. The terminals aren't bad, clean showers, the fuel desks are helpful, and even the shop guys are decent. Much better than some other places I've been.
The OC in Greenbay is shutdown, but the HQ and the school are still open. The Seville Oh terminal is shutdown, but still used as a dropyard, that you can still park in, plenty of room. They shutdown the cafeteria in Aberfoyle I understand. You won't believe the number of dropyards SNI has, they're all over the place, and as far as I remember, you can do your ten in any of them. Some of them are nice and quiet. -
I'm figuring since they have cafaterias then that's going to be what I'm stuck with during orientation. and I hate bad food.
I'm very apprehensive about all this. lol -
Are you driving your own tractor to orientation?
-
yes, it has to go through inspection. Plus i'm renting my reefer to a guy and his yard is just south of indy so it works out good
