    Question abt bypassing a scale-

I always get a Red light on my transponder at the South Bound California scale just south of Weed. What happens if I don't go in? Do they have the means to track you and will they send a chaser car out? There are always a couple of cop cars there.

I'm over on my front axles but total weight is 75850

    Thanks

    Jeff

Lol, yes they can and at times will chase you down. And California is the wrong state to try pulling a fast one, particularly in that stretch where it's mountains pretty much once you leave the scale. If they don't decide to come pull you over, a lot have bypass cameras these days.

Moral of the story: I wouldn't try it

I would find a back road to go around them. I wouldn't chance it running them. Or wait it until they close

Can't you slide the fifth wheel or trailer tandems?

That Dunsmuir scale practically never closes so he's screwed there. And in the mountains I wouldn't be seeking an alternate route in California that either probably is restricted or so treacherous you'd wish you stayed the course. Getting an overaxle ticket is better than dodging or running a scale and especially better than getting caught on a black route. I've been overaxle in California a couple times and never had an issue. Most give some leeway. More likely to get popped for the 40' law

Are you sure you are over? Contrary to populer belief, 12k is not (usually) the max weight.
It's the lesser of state limit (20k i think in CA), tire rating, or axle limit.

Consider moving your 5th wheel back a notch or two.
