Running an empty trailer with the front axle chained up

    Tandem spring suspension; both springs load the center 'equalizer'. A unit designed to lift one axle does not have any connection between the axles.

    depends on the suspension but the springs won't be supported properly and will affect handling and could make the tires wear funny.

    Pulled a triple axle trailer from Northern IL. Back to tn, 2 years ago. Empty trailer had 2 blow outs. Pulled those tires off. Pulled the tires off the front axle. Came home with no issues.
    Also did the same as your talking about. Bought a 40ft Gooseneck near Detroit. New tires on the rear axle. Bad tires on the other axle. Tossed those bad ones on the deck. Chained up the front axle. Took that trailer to Tn without buying 2 new tires on the road.
