Is it really worth it to run on regions of the country with severe winter conditions like the northwest (WA, OR, ID, MT,...)? One has to deal with tire chains, antigel treatment, low MPG’s, dangerous roads, etc.
Running in Heavy Snow Regions Worth It?

If your a company driver the answer is no.
You get paid the same whether your in a blizzard
or down in the Florida sunshine.
If your a owner operator negotiating your own rates,
then yes, you can make it worth the headache.Hotplate, WildTiger1990, Derailed and 2 others Thank this. -
Never mind the dangerous roads. They are not dangerous to me personally. That's why Im out that way, I love it.
Again you can find plenty of danger back east or midwest or even the south. There is a 5 mph curve at the OK Border and AR where you must be less than 5 or you will punch through the portable barriers (Easily replaced) and fall several hundred feet with the barriers following you down. Plenty of truck rubber going off that edge when they do find out it's really 5 mph and sky. Thats usually the last thing they get to see.adayrider, Metallica88, Puppage and 2 others Thank this. -
I love the snow and ice, keeps life interesting.
Google a town named Revelstoke sometime, known for its deep snow and crazy winters...Love it here and the skiing and snowmobiling is also epic!Nothereoften, magoo68, not4hire and 3 others Thank this. -

When I was a new driver the company sent me into the Canadian Rockies all winter and a lot of times the plows weren't out to clear the roads so I was rolling on full ice. It keeps you awake for sure and I found it interesting since I was never in such a dangerous situation. I was able to stay calm and handle it while trucks around me were sliding off the road
