Whats the pros and cons? Do diffrent motors react diffrent?
I have a cummins ism@425hp with egr but no dpf, im looking to straight pipe it or replace the muffler with a aero turbine 4040xl or mbrp muffler

You gain power by switching to straight pipes as long as they're not so large that they create turbulence which creates more back pressure than the original mufflers. The only soot that the mufflers would stop from going into the atmosphere is whatever gets plugged up in the baffles...causing more unwanted back pressure. As far as DPFs needing mufflers for back pressure to work right, I don't think I've ever seen a muffler on a truck with a DPF. It's my understanding that the DPF also does the work of a muffler

Right now it has one of those big oval mufflers under cab and its 4" in 5" out so i think my 4" mbrp straight threw muffler to the 5" inch stack shouldnt make any diffrence
