running under someone elses authority

    I work for a company and we have two trucks we haul railroad materials our authority is just a private carrier, but our trucks go out and we want to get some back hauls can we do it as a trip lease without changing our authority or do we need a MC number. please help so I can figure out what to do.

    I don't know if trip leasing is still around.Havnt heard anybody doing that in many moons.

    A private carrier is one that hauls their own cargo and does not require authority. Do you mean contract carrier authority? if so just get cargo insurance and roll.

    I have exempt commodity authority and I will do a trip lease when loading something not exempt or my own product
