My apologies if I misread that post about 2k. I aimed you meant miles, not dollars. Either way, congrats to you.

So with over 30 years total running businesses, I might have a wee bit of an inkling as to what I'm doing.

Now Treputt you won't be able to look him up to talk because he will be the one that has to go go go. In other words he is probably in the holding area longer than anyone.

Holding trips simply to prevent a single week in the red is bad math. Period.
You're increasing your fixed cost percentage vs revenue every week. For simplicity I'll pick $300 as fixed cost. At 3000 miles your fixed cost is 10 cpm. At 2000 miles your fixed cost would be 15 cpm. A 50% increase. The floating part of the truck payment doesnt matter one way or another. Its the same percentage on every dispatched mile. Doesnt take an adam smith to figure more miles on any given check will net a higher percentage profit per mile, subject only to differences in fuel purchasing week to week.
Further by holding trips you're effectively using a savings account that returns zero interest. Current interest rates may be crap but 100% of zero is zero even in Keynesian economic theory.
Finally, what does it matter if you go in the hole for a week. JCT isnt charging you interest for a neg check. Besides that I turned in a week with a whopping 800 miles and still had a positive settlement so it certainly doesnt take much to stay in the black.
As for what you did before.... I dont care. At this moment you're displaying an incredible lack of basic business acumen.wonderdog24 and 123456 Thank this.
