Well, so much for plan "A".... I'm still sitting in Dalton. After dropping my load yesterday morning at 7, I had to wait until midnight for a dumpy little 280 mile run to KY. So I forced myself to sleep (a couple hours) yesterday and then they gave that load to a new guy. So now I've been up all night and ready to sleep again...LOL Watta bet they'll want me to run today? So far a killer new year. A 1000 miles this week. WOOPIE! Hey Sweetie! Yea, I'm not much for sitting. Drives me NUTS! The kicker is, just when I was getting back on top of things, the 10 day break and now this thin week will put me right back in the hole! So far, Dalton is my least favorite place. They treat you like you're just in their way. Not polite at all and it seems the loads are always messed up!
Welp, plan "B"?? Same as Plan "A"....LOL Dispatch is putting me on another Richmond KY run that I have to wait until around 22:00 for. Has to be delivered by 05:00 Friday. I sure hope this doesn't leave me sitting over the weekend. With no pay this Friday (due to the holiday), and only 1000 miles for next Friday, I'm gonna need some killer miles before next Thursday for a decent check two weeks from tomorrow.
Aww that bites! At W/S can you ask them to try and preplan you a load for after you finish your Richmond run? If so maybe they can make sure you atleast get something for the weekend.
Oh yes and I do this all the time. Already done this time too but with the holiday slow down, I'm not counting my chickens at this point. Again, although pretty frustrating, I'm not complaining or blaming dispatch. I think it's just the way the cards fall around this time of year. I'd also not be surprised to learn that maybe the drivers who worked the holidays are getting top priority. I think that would be fair myself as they missed being home with family. That's nothing more than a guess on my part. All I know for sure is, I faced "slow downs" all my life in construction so I'm rather used to it....LOL
Well sounds like you've done about all you can except wait. Fingers crossed that they find something for you for the weekend.
Well I managed to pull out of the Dalton slump fairly well. After taking the load from Dalton to the KY terminal, I had a load from KY to NC. It didn't deliver until Monday so I called Conover and told them I'd drop it there Friday so I could get another load out for the weekend. They gave me a run to Helena so a 2200 mile run is in the works. The load was ready Friday night but knowing the storm was coming into NC I decided to wait until it passed. I left Saturday at 11:00 and missed all the fun with 40 being shut down in the gorge..... Although still messy and snowing hard, we rolled through slow but with no stopping. Now today was a great start but as soon as I hit the Iowa border, I hit snow. Came down pretty good and the roads got messy pretty quick. Normally I wouldn't mind but this load is less than 10,000 lbs so things got a bit squirly in places. It snowed all the way here to Sioux Falls and it's still coming down. I thought about stopping a few times but figured I could stay ahead of the worst of it by rolling on. With 900 miles to go, Teusday morning should be a good target for Helena. I know there's a front moving through MT now so I wonder how much I'll hit along the way?
the front in montana is not forcasted to dump much snow. and it will be cold all week with the skies clearing by tuesday.. the colder the better if the roads are bad.. tonight it is snowing but not sticking to the roads its 6 below zero and the snow is blowing around...
Thanks for the info... I was just about to check out the weather maps and see what's up. Only 6 below? And here I thought it'd be cold....... LOL As long as the winds aren't too crazy, it should be a good run then. I'd be happier if I had some weight in the box.
chralb, watch yourself on i90 around livingston, mt. the wind is notorious for howling down the canyon (blowing from south to north) and the gusts can be vicious. you'll come down a little grade onto a bridge over the yellowstone river and then starting climbing a little grade. the bridge is pretty much the worst of it, but don't let your guard down until you are up at the top of the grade.
