Hey all! Wow I don't surf the crack TTR forum for a few hours and you guys got some GREAT ideas! It would be a help if some of the mods did have any ideas and it would be great for TTR to spread the word as the Premier Driving Industry Forum! I really like some of the ideas so far and if this could or would work-get some sponsorship and held over a few days event to allow those driving/not off a chance to stop in- it would be a blast!!! Chris- in your absence we have now HIJACKED your thread officially to get the TTR Members together!! Hope you are in a rig that drives, does not drip smoke spurt or anything else and you get home soon to get your stuff! stay safe driver!!
Chralb...his name is Chris and he posted his name not just his screen name early on in Openroadguys' orginal post.
Great ideas are flowing here and word is already likely spreading through TTR. I expect that are going t-shirts will "pop up" in a few days on their own now. If I may be permitted to offer a comment or two... I've prepared it in another message and have it saved. I won't post it until requested. And I can not be on the committee, too much on my own event and other things. Some things I've seen on my events in Houston from personal experience. Merlin
Ohhhhhhhhh and I have a great meeting/get together place http://riveredge.cc/index.htm and I especially like it cuz it's less then 1 mile from me...hahahaha..but it is a great place..
GGal the River Edge lodge looks pretty nice.. what would happen if a couple of hundred trucks showed up. Would they have parking available? Showers ?
well we have a truck stop on both ends of Alberton so it wouldn't be hard to drop trailer and either Bob tail or definatly be shuttled to and from...believe me we have a big event evry year called Railroad days and we know how to accomidate visitors
and yes they have guest laundry and showers and restrooms and of course right on the river so if you come in june/july there's always the river next to it and it has a beach..if you look a my photo album you'll see a bridge that is right down the river from it BEAUTIFUL
Cpape has the a vaild point. Having rented a couple of big tents this year I know you can get a 20x40 for about $800 from a party rental company and they would set up and tear down the tent. In order to get the funds you could sell booth space in the tent to vendors or ask for donations in return for advertising ect. First palce would be to contact the local companies like Cpape mentioned and ask for the District Manager's contact information. Most corporations fund these types of budgets in the first quarter of the year. How about a contest like best dish cooked in a truck. As a wannabe that would be educational and hopefuly tasty.
Thinking big is easy. The biggest obstacle I see is that we all have to drive/work. Long range planning helps because it's easier for schedules to be adjusted. The less "instrumentality" (best word at the moment) we use the greater chance of success. Let me expound on that. Let's say, for example, that the first TTR meet each other gala was nothing more than an agreed upon location for members to "check-in". When they arrive at this predetermined place, they can hang out, meet who ever is there, buy a t-shirt which commemorates the experience, and the proceeds from those sales can be used to make the next gathering larger. We would have to make a decision, on how long this "event" should last, and who can we get to run it. I'm sure we can dig up an ample supply of helpers. And your right. A 10x10 tent is most likely to small. That was something I referenced from the Truckers Jamboree web site. If we run on our own, we can get our own tent. There's a lot of potential here. In a few years it could be a big deal. Location is key. But if we do this in the wrong place, we'll be using the t-shirts to wash our trucks. Anybody know how big the draw is for the Trucker Jamboree?
