Heard that rust that forms between the inner and outer frame channels on an old peterbilt 359 can keep you from getting cvip. Any advice on how to resolve? I assume I can cut the bolts off to separate the inner/outer, sandblast and reassemble with new bolts but was wondering if someone has done this before and has any advice/suggestions

You won't really know until you take it apart. On mine, looked bad. Took the 5th wheel off and the top of the frame that carries the 5th was almost gone. Paper thin. Rail under the air bags is the same. Maybe take one of your front air bags off near the inner and see how bad it is. If not too bad, then you can do the sandblast thing.

I am now planning to have a new set of rear rails installed. A local welding shop that does this sort of thing quoted me around $2K to cut the rails behind the rear motor mounts and re-rail it back from there. My WB is 254in.

    Agreed.

That double rail is prone to that. I wonder if Peterbilt sells new thicker frame rails that would match the strength of the double rail, that would be the way to go.
