RV Transport or Expediting? Which more profitable?

That is so true . I couldn't believe major expedite recruiting ads stating flat $1.20 a mile for straight trucks . I don't see how fleet owners can keep trucks running on 40% of that .

 

Well first $1.20 is low, think more or less $1.60 to $2 as the norm averaged out for the month. It really depends on the company, I could put a truck with Panther and used their 70/30 split to use the load boards and take work that way but I never was that ambitious.

It is the van owners who I can't understand how they do it with the 40/60 split, I was one once and my margin was so thin, it was easier to use the van to make money for local stuff like Home Depot deliveries by splitting the take while having the driver sitting at the HD for a day.

 

I hope you don't mind me jumping in here to ask a questions but, what is this about the 2008 rule coming in January? Is that just a resident/prisoner of California rule for trucking?

I live in Vancouver, WA, does the 2008 law apply to me as well? Should I even be looking at older than 2008 straight vans to get started in expediting??

You mean CARB where you have to have a DPF on your truck to enter California?

It is simple, you have to have it or they will fine you. Something that I hope goes into federal court and gets knocked down because it is pretty much the fed's job to regulate interstate commerce, and they can't mandate the changes to emissions on trucks due to other laws.

 

CARB is only aimed at trucks with a gvwr greater than 14,000.

 

True but I read straight van which I heard the term before used for a straight truck.

 

There are under 26000 st8 trucks, you still have to log but no CDL required. A company may want you to have one, but I know some don't. Expediter online is a great source for detailed info on us expediters. But there is some very good info in this thread for you.

You won't always get the truth at Expediter online, most of the time they tell you to search but search what and when you ask a question that has been answered before, they may bash you for it.

 

Pardon my ignorance but, what's the DPF you're talking about.
