RV Transport questions...

I wonder the same about the guys in the big trucks and some of the company drivers.

Seriously though, that is a low rate.

I have been doing it since 2003 and replaced one truck in the time. Have thought about a new truck, but the emissions will stop me. It is my full time job and it is not hard to make a living compared to a company drivers pay at some companies.

 

If $1.25 per mile is a low rate then what is a "good" rate for owner operators only hauling 1 travel trailer at a time ?

 

It depends on the company, where the freight is going, dedicated contractor and other things.

We have freight that moves at 1.56 per mile.

I know of another company that is 1.80 plus.

Remember, my entire cost of operating the truck, fuel, license, payments, insurance and etc is only .44 per mile for every mile driven.

 

I cannot believe that there are people who want to haul RV's. Go into any truck stop and look at the poor guys doiung this. You can make more being a Wal Mart greeter. You will turn your truck into a POS within 2 years and have no $$ for your trouble. It is one big rip off. IF you were paid something for the empty return to Indiana maybe it would work. I once worked it out that you would make about $6.00 an hour, Sleep in the back seat and be a member of a cult. Yes it is just like a cult!!! A lot of strange guys do this kind of work.

Unless you have some sort of backhaul hauling RV's is a losing job. A bunch of smelly guys who sleep in the back seat of a Dually and shower once a week because they are not paid enough $$. By the time you outfit your truck, pay for insurance and then even have to wash the trailers at your expense this job sucks!! I have looked at at least 3 of the biggies and the math is the same. A less than minimum wage job!

 

Again, you have no knowledge.

I have done it since 2003 and take many showers each week and also, no back hauls.

Make alot more than I did as a company driver in a big truck and have more freedom and hometime options.

But, then again, you must know everything.

By the way, the company pays for the wash fee. Get the facts straight.

 

The internet is full of persons who have tried RV hauling and quickly came to the conclusion that it is hopeless. My advice to anyone that is interested is to do the math.

Especially with your vast knowledge on the subject?

I am not saying that everyone is successful. But, I have no problem with the take home money.

Your advice is hardly worth anything.
