RV Transport vs. LTL/HotShot Hauling

    Real hotshot freight can be pretty light and some 5th wheel RV's weigh over 20,000 lbs . Running unloaded half the time in the RV industry is pretty easy on a truck also but you don't get paid for that .

    Remember, the pickup is worthless and will not hold up.

    Mine has over 847,000 miles on it.

    I have not seen any 5th wheel with a weight that high in 10 years of doing this.

    Because the amount of business involved in that area is shrinking each year and down to small number of which many are not charged for the work anymore.

    Just reading the thread trying to decide what area of trucking I want to pursue...but I gotta ask, Do you have a truck with 847,000 miles that is NOT paid for yet?

    Yes.
    My first truck was bought used. It became a bottomless pit. I would go out for a week and then home for a week to repair it. I owed money on it and rolled it on to this truck loan. It meant a little longer.

    Then the freight got good and I was putting on more miles than I planned each year.

    Good news. It is paid for this summer. May only work 3 weeks each month or just 3 days each week.

    Living in eastern Virginia, RV hauling isn't an option for me. I'm trying to get info on LTL or hotshot trucking. I'm willing to purchase whatever type of rig that I need. I can always drive initially for a local regional carrier (I have my Class A CDL with all endorsements and experience from many years ago). Just thinking I'd enjoy driving a little lighter and smaller rig rather than tracking down shippers and receivers in big cities with a condo tractor and 53' van.

    There are people I know from Florida, Idaho, Texas and Arizona that do this.
