You elevate them by calling them drivers. Why?

And don't use cruise control/engine brake/auto mode on an auto trans in road slippery conditions when mitigating factors occur.
Like fog or strong side winds. Night time/low visibility/ twisted roads are also mitigating conditions.

You ever heard about the 10/80/10 rule?
In case you never heard about it, here it is.
It pretty much applies to anything in this part of the Galaxy. Maybe even everywhere in the Milky way.
10% are exceptional ' '. Insert anything you like.
80% are pretty average ' '. Insert anything you like.
10% are hopeless ' '. Insert anything you like.
If you never heard about it, it's because I just made it out of thin air.
    You are welcomed.

You may be onto something here.
Also you'll (almost) never get into a crush, since you'll have a perennial widening gap in front of you.

I've tried it. In my opinion, slowing down to a speed slightly slower than traffic has its own set of risks. Namely, the risk of being rear ended by someone not paying attention. In my little trial, I also fought boredom driving like that.

But, I DO think if ALL the people that are affected by such a law would actually do 60 mph in the right lane, BEFORE such a law is enacted, and make it a point to show the unintended consequences, people might change their minds

Going the speed limit you still have to worry about it. The super Truckers going 90 in the hammer lane and tailgating. Texting on their phone.

This is one of my few buttons. With that said, slow EVERYONE down. 4 wheeler's and 18 wheeler's. No? Then be prepared for a lot of drivers leaving the industry. A slowed speed for a cents per mile driver is a pay cut. What will the Feds do to deal with the loss of money?

After awhile a job you use to love is not longer financially viable to have.

What other industry has had the Feds come in and mandate wages be slashed?

I still don’t believe this has much to do with safety.
It’s about control (think mask mandate with limited evidence)
Further ruining an industry that they don’t want to exist due to the environmental agenda
And making electric trucks competitive because otherwise they will never be accepted by the industry
I won’t disagree that reducing speed could increase safety BUT it will only work if everyone is going the same speed
I also think that generally the driving skills of everyone have declined and I think a lot of it has to do with modern day distractions and the level of automation of vehicles. I think there’s a lot of people driving heavy trucks that shouldn’t be but can and do because it takes very little mechanical aptitude which in my experience usually translates into more aware drivers because they tend to be more in tune with their vehicle.
    just my observations
