Hi all,
Im hoping I can get a bit of advice from the more experienced guys (or gals) on here. I am looking at trying to get into trucking, I have been reading the forums as much as I can, including ALL of evertruckerr's post on his time with Crete. I have decided to try my best to avoid the "3 week wonder" classes and go the community college route in hopes of not getting screwed too badly. I have called Ivy Tech in Indianapolis, couldn't get ahold of them right off, but I left a message, and was amazed when not even 15 minutes later my phone was ringing. I talked to them for about 30 minutes, and they answered all of my questions without any hesitation (I cant say that about TDI) and they seemed very straightforward with a no BS approach. I didn't feel like I was being sold, and as an ex salesman, I appreciate that a lot.
Anyway... The course is run by Sage (read good things about them), is 5 and a half weeks with 11 4 hour driving days (during morning, day, and evening), and runs $4300 with all books, tests, and endorsments (TDI was $6000 with $150/wk company reimbursment). It is a PDTI certified class, which I wanted because I hope to sign up with Crete. They also said that they could work around my schedule at my current job so I won't have to quit until I'm sure I have a job after school, but it may take a while longer to get through everything that way. I'm fine with that since I need the income during my schooling.
My questions to the masses are: has anyone taken this class, and if so, would you recommend it? How many students are/were there in your class, and how many in the truck while in the yard/on the road? Did the instructors let you learn at your own pace, or was it really rushed? I have no problem working my ### off to make this happen, and I know it will be hard starting out.
Thanks in advance for any advice you may have to offer,
David
