I am guessing that 2.66 is before they take there cut? Also what kind of miles is that load on both bounce and loaded? I am very interested in Sammons I am just in no hurry and want to find out everything I can. Have not decided on leasing a truck from them or waiting an extra year and buying one to lease on there. How is step freight out of the Midwest?

Yes, that is before they take their cut, it is a 300 mile bounce and a 1500 mile run. Gross is 3.17 per loaded mile.

Posting rates out of an area isn't really a good idea the way I run, I have no problem deadheading 500 miles providing I got paid well enough to get were I am and the load I am headed for is another well paying load. I know some guys don't want to deadhead and will take 1.50 a mile, I will usually deadhead before I will take cheap freight. I try to avoid the Northwest and California, but will go there if it pays enough. I looked at my balance sheets and can say I average .38 a mile gross to me, .69 on the truck principal and the balance pays all my expenses including finance charges. My rates would be a little higher but I have only been staying out an average of 3 to 3 1/2 weeks and home for 5 to 7 days and of course your fixed expenses continue whether your on the road or home.
The type of trucks changes but, I see mostly KW,s and Prostars, a few Volvos and a Pete or two. My Prostar had 460k on her when I got it, two guys I know got KW's with 600 and 700 k on them, and two guys with Prostars had 350 and 500k on them. The trucks all seem to be well maintained and so far mine has been good to me.
I paid a little more for my truck than what I think I could have gotten it for elsewhere, but it wasn't a large amount, and I am in a walk away lease purchase so that freedom is worth the little extra I might have paid. I ran my own business for years but it wasn't trucking so having an out without having a truck to liquidate was important to me.
Although it is a little rough with the cut in take home pay until the truck is paid off, I think I have found a home here, and don't plan on leaving until it is time to hang up the keys for good. They are genuinely interested in helping you succeed here, they want you to pay off your truck and haul freight, that is where they make their money and aren't looking to lease the same truck time after time.
Rates are all over the place, but for the most part Sammons freight pays well, and if you find better stuff on the other load boards we can take loads from most other companies. I personally take mostly Sammons, but have pulled quite a few Landstar loads also.

Made an error on the post, .69 to principal is so far this year, last year average was .41 to principal per mile. Our principal payments adjust according to trucks profit so it changes every month and our principal payment increases as our finance payments decrease.

This thread is pretty dead, but I'm going to try and revive it haha. What happens with break downs? Does sammons cover it and it adds to your principal? I feel like you don't make enough to cover major repairs. I really like how the deal sounds though.

I wish I would have read this thread before I signed on with Sammons Trucking. I left a good job because I wanted the opportunity to have my own truck and the freedom to choose my own loads. It was NOT worth it.#

1.) If you are looking to be able to save money, pay your bills on time or have a life outside of this truck, this IS not the company for you. I made 79$ last week because the Sammons agents in Missoula love that cheap freight. 1.70$ a mile is my average so don't fall into the "We don't take less than 2.25$ a mile" crap that they spew.

2.) They buy CRAP for trucks. High miles, loads of issues. Ask ant of the 15+ drivers who got one of the former GTI trucks just how well that's gone for them.#

3.) THE EMPLOYEES. This is a group of people who will sit at the local bar or outside in the smoking area and talk crap about the drivers and their ordeals in front of new recruits. You wouldn't believe the stuff I heard on my first day about another driver. I was humiliated for the guy. Don't even get me started on the maintenance coordinators. Dave Repp and Don Green. Two of the worst individuals you'll ever have the misfortune of running into. Arrogant, rude, lying, ####y men. I could say worse but I'd probably get booted from TR. They tell you on your first day that they are YOUR employees. Yeah, right. See how well that holds up the first time you break down.#

Point blank, don't do it. Don't do it. I'll probably get slammed and called a disgruntled employee who got fired. You're right, I am VERY disgruntled. I was lied to and feel like I got sucker punched

First off I did not know they ran a forced board.. When did that change?
You run your trk. and run it right you can make money with any company. Rate to low, say no...
I do know things have changed since I have left. Oh I did not get fired. I canceled my lease..
