Pretty amazing that 30+ people showed up for the 20 slot class; many were walk ins. Most did not have the recommended CDL permit, but a permit training class is available before the actual CDL class starts on 4/2/2018.
I'm a retarded guy, uh...I mean retired guy, so this will be a second career I hope!
So far I have seen a few companies on this website (Chinatown & others) recommend: Tidewater, Cargo Transporters, and many others for SE US routes. I will be starting CDL school at Sampson CC in April & would appreciate any advice about trucking jobs in the southeastern US. Thanks

Just completed the first week of training. Their weekday program runs 4 days per week for 11 weeks, typically with Monday in the classroom from 0900 to 1600 and Tuesday through Thursday on the driving range from 0800 until 1800. Lunch breaks are 1.5 hours long so you can go to the local restaurants if you don't want to pack a lunch.
For this first week we did have 2 days in class to take care of some extra administrative stuff, then 2 days on the range. On the range, we were divided into 3 groups to practice pre-trip inspections, couple/uncouple, and forward obstacle course, rotating over the 2 days. This was very interesting since we have a highly diverse crowd, about 24 students, ranging in age from 19 to 70, and experience level from CDL holder to no manual transmission experience. Amazingly, this broad experience level has not been a big issue; everyone has been patient, helpful, and supportive.
Next week on the range days, we will have half of the class on the road driving and the other half on the range practicing pre-trips, couple/uncouple, and forward obstacle course. Wish us luck!Need4Speed Thanks this.
