I disagree. There is a strip of about a mile from the truckstop in a field halfway to a hotel that is also on the hill at the next exit on the Houston Road eastbound. You can see a string of bobtails darkened ship waiting for their turn to be blown to heaven by a hooker working out of her car in the tall field grass. It's particualrly dark there.

It's not hard to feel slimy and dirty just going into some of those places around the truckstops when your eyes see and reveal the extent of human depravity at night in particular and most telling, the declining health of he people around with the skin cancers, bad teeth and sunken eyes and signs of dope addiction as well.

At one time long ago, San Antone was a good place. Fast forward to 2001 I listen to my wife tell me how disappointed and angry she was to notice all of these people engaging in behavior that is not healthy to try turning a trick and get 60 bucks in 15 minutes for the next hit of drugs or something.

Just showing up there in that complex made the clothes feel dirty enough that it needs to be burned. I quietly gave thanks that we were a team and all we needed was fuel. To that end we learned to fuel at the pilot in San Antone which is right at the NE corner of the major interchanges in that forest. Grab a pump, splash fuel into the thirsty truck, turn off the radio and keep going south towards Mexico with whom we have commerce to do.

Its nothing like it was back years ago, but even at that it was often overblown no one bothers you at those stops, 36 years. Of it for me
