But but but Jim, that’s just a little hill unlike out west.
Well, little tidbit of information, it’s not the size of the mountain you’re going down, it’s how you approach it.

Scariest hill I ever encountered was in southern Pennsylvania, maybe 220, and my rookie butt made a miscalculation and I was gaining speed too quickly.
The crest just dropped off sharply into a steep descent and I was rolling quickly toward the town square. Fortunately, my brakes were in good working order and I could slow down quickly.
It's safe to say I wasn't expecting such a steep decline on such a road, but there it was.mjd4277, Oxbow, exhausted379 and 5 others Thank this. -

It irks me when some left coast guy compares his mountains to the Appalachians. All mountains are equally as dangerous when they aren't respected.

To prove a point, we had to take a 46k load from Calabasas and Barstow (2 stop p/u) to Phoenix. I had him pick the route... he picked CA 247 to CA62 to I-10 at Palm Springs. He also almost missed the turn at Lucerne Valley, and took us up CA18 to Big Bear. I told him, if you were by yourself, you would have had a BAD time in about 30 minutes.mjd4277, D.Tibbitt, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 3 others Thank this. -
Don’t forget the Ozark mountains. They’ve had their Daredevils too.
