Insurance is controlling this now, I can't hire any SAP grads, those who work for me now I have a different set of rules for them.

Insurance controls this industry thanks to the trial lawyers.

 

Because so many of the larger carriers are self-insured I would say it is 50% insurance and 50% 40.309 and to a lesser degree 40.305. I spoke to a friend about hiring a guy who has finished SAP and he said clearly NO because he does not have the time to deal with all that enhanced testing. When a driver tests positive most of the time their carrier terminates them. This can cause the driver to get stuck in the middle of the return to duty procedure. It is actually a serious problem.

 

Since you're looking at some of the above suggestions--have you thought about applying to any of the other "food service" carriers?
