Ideally the best place for the antenna would be at the highest point of the truck which is in back. It wouldn't be very difficult to take a piece of stainless steel and bolt it to the grab handle on the back and put a 90-degree Bend in it at the top and attach the antenna to the top of your extension which would put the antenna right there at the top of the roofline. That way it wouldn't matter which direction you're facing even if you were facing northbound the satellite would still be able to see over the top of your trailer and have direct line of sight with the antenna.

I agree with rabbiporkchop. I used the mirror bracket type mount and was still not getting adequate reception on my POS Rand McNally GPS. I moved the entire assembly to the highest wind defection mount near the top of the tractor. There is a screw there that bolts the bracket down nicely. Now even my POS RandcNally GPS works better too. By the way, will never ever buy another Rand CNally GPS.
