I have decided to save money and purchase a truck. My question is how much should I save for maintenance before I take the jump.

if you get a maxxforce engine truck you'll need to save approximately $1.2 million for maintenance before you take the jump... off a bridge.

Doubleyellow had a great right up. I'd say he did his start up with frugal precision and spent quite a bit. You didn't put a location, unless your in Cali or plan on running Cali quite a bit, avoid EGR. Finance a cheap truck and have plenty of capital. I leased on with $20k saved. Still doing fine and have about $22k. Your maintenance will be severely affected by a poor purchase and/or emission garbage.

Save for a rainy day, Different engines take more to repair and replace
Cummins the cheapest to repair like the n14's
    Detroit the second from cheapest
cat highest out of the real diesel engines
    But mercedes High priced

Thanks for input. I was thinking around 5k and continue to put 1 to 2 hundred a week away until I had enough to rebuild engine. I live in NC probably not run CA. I will be driving flatbed. Probably lease on with mercer.

Flatbed with mercer or ls and you'll do fine. When I financed my truck with the bank they did the loan as a commercial line of credit with a lien on my title. If things get sticky I could always get more money on the line of credit.

This is good advise... I had over 15k in repairs my first year...5k could put you in a bind.

    icsheeple Thanks this.
