I was driving my Tractor Trailer on I-12 going through Baton Rouge on Thursday at about 10 AM. I saw a KLLM truck moving up beside me in traffic. It was a KLLM tractor, had the logo in the front of the condo roof, the logo on the side, (didn't notice if it was a lease or not) and it was hauling an Atomic Bomb (Liquified Petroleum Gas Tanker) belonging to DPI Transport. WTF? Are they contracting with DPI or something? :biggrin_25524:

I was wondering about the KLLM Truck pulling the Atomic Bomb. (LPG Gas Tanker). I talked to a friend at KLLM today, and was told that they have 5 Company Trucks that are running dedicated on contract, hauling them. Also they have some local runs hauling Live Chickens. I guess for Miss Goldies or Tyson or something.

Gotta make money any which way you can:biggrin_2559: I dislike having to do fresh kill chicken. Sit at the plant 4-6 hours. (and the plant smells!)

Iwas at there orientation beginning of Oct. wanted us to do live haul chickens and still take the refeer test at end of training .Jackson to Brokenarrow OK. dedicated run. Dropped out of there orientation to many things were not adding up. They wanted to make us belive they were doing us a favor by giving us that crap. I am all for paying my dues and all but from what some of the guys there for lease purchase had to say and some of these guys had 10 plus years on the road thats a pretty crappy way to gain some experience and not the safest load for a newbie to be pulling. Mabey they are taking what they can get I understad but to pull that BS on me I dont think so

Actually, I've never hauled live chickens before, but believe me, some drivers would jump on a dedicated run. After you put in some time Over the Road, a dedicated run is kinda nice. You know exactly where you are going, you know your hours and rest times. They want you to take the reefer test, because KLLM has nothing but 53' reefer trailers in the fleet. If you go off of the dedicated run, you WILL be pulling a reefer. If you haul chemicals, dry household goods, mops and brooms, or cardboard, you will still be hauling it in a 53' reefer, even if the refer unit is off. The load you pull next, may be frozen, or temp controlled. That is the way they remain more versatile and able to get more loads. You need to be able to operate and use the reefer unit.
