I would not work for them as a company driver or an owner operator, I'd rather take a Chicago 1099 job with an old, rusty, paper logged White Volvo. I don't get along with megas.

Diesel was 92 cents a gallon ,
A nice used tractor with 300-500k on the clock was $15-25k

Back in those days I was pad $6 per hour on dirty construction jobs around Chicago, including black south neighborhoods.
On my way there, on Kennedy Expressway, I did see enviously those long hoods, chromed up and shiny ... maybe one of them was you. -
