What do you do when a shipper asks you for the carrier's SCAC code when the carrier doesn't have one since it's no longer a DOT requirement?

Tell them they don't have one. You would be surprised how many don have/won't pay the $65/year.

I don't have one. Is it something good to have? I run regular flatbed stuff.

Some direct customers will require it, need it to set up for government, auto, rail and others. Multiple carriers with the same name cuts down the confusion for billing/payments.

I work in the automotive sector and no one requires them anymore. Our transactional brokerage team had a customer that "couldn't ship anything without a SCAC" which I have heard before but I gave them our SCAC code (3pl) and that shut em up. This time, they are adamant they need a SCAC.

Unless you need to set up on eModal I wouldn’t bother. It's a waste of money just to have it for the sake of having it.
