I'm Buying a truck in PA and im driving it home to SC on a in transit permit. (temp plate with a bill of sale) I will be driving her bobtail. Will the scale house give me problems or pick on me because im bobtail and when they see the temp plate might they throw a red? I really hate to be the "ooooooooo this truck looks odd lets check him" for 3 or 4 states

Just pull in like normal. They see it all the time so it shouldn't cause any problems.
truckman29801 and Truckergirl0720 Thank this. -
Ive driven 3 trucks home all around 1000 miles away when I bought them. Ive pulled in to the open scale houses on every occasion and didnt have a problem.

Sounds like GA. They have to make their money somehow. The braves suck, the Falcons are worthless and the bulldogs? lets not even go there lol
TNPRIDE1066 and jcross Thank this. -
Run it like you would loaded, Be sure your tag is visible from the cameras approaching the scale house, They will run the numbers, If they are able to see you are OK then you can roll on over it.

hmmm on the camera note, only scale ik has cameras is one in PA and VA, NC on 95 seems pretty low tech

What? Why even bother pulling into a scale when you're bobtailing? There *may* be some states which classify a bobtail as a truck, but most don't due to the axle count / gross weight. I can't say if that's the case with SC, but all of the times, and I do mean ALL of the times that I have been bobtailing, I never stop at a scale. Ever. It's not been an issue in 13 years.
Good luck on whatever you end up doing, and have fun with your new truck... don't spend too much time in the chrome shop!!truckman29801 Thanks this. -
How often do people just keep driving? I perfer to do this because pullin in seems to be just askin for it.

When I first started I ran the one at i40 mm50 in tn. I was bob tail and the trooper at exit 56 pulled me over for it.
Same with the one on us 78 in Mississippi at Alabama line. You are required to stop regardless if you have a load or not.
