You are allowed 20k on single axle per DOT but many manufacturers only rate front axles at 12k and your tires are not good for much more than that.

My truck has a 400 pound exemption, for the apu,I carry documentation.
Sometimes you will be loaded at 79,500 pounds.
You will have 34,500 on your drives, with your tandems slid all the way forward.
Scale houses will most likely make you move the weight, off your drives,by sliding the fifth wheel.
They dont want more than 34000 pounds per axle..tears up roads.
By running h rated tires, you can carry 13200 on steers.
Axle limit is 20000 pounds on steers..if you have the correct axle and tires.

As long as I've been close on axle weight and never over gross, I have never had an issue. I've been driving almost 16 years.

Ive had to drive on fumes, loaded at 79900.
Even with my exemption,I dont want to push the issue, with a rough scale master.
I dont have good luck, trying to talk my way,out of tickets.

Well, I decided to wait until I was done the run and figure out the 5th wheel in daylight, and close to the shop. Sure enough, didn't want to slide, got one of the sliding locks to move, couldn't see if the other one was releasing. Dropped trailer, went to shop.

Sure enough, the RH one wasnt moving, because it WASNT THERE.

Stole one from another truck, threw it in, now the 5th wheel slides. Back to the scales I go.
