    Hey Juan,

If you don't already have it -- I strongly suggest you download & make friends with the cellphone app, "Weigh My Truck".

It's a very smooth, pleasant experience to use that app to scale your rig.

And FAR BETTER than dealing with any DOT scale or location. o_O

If you’re only driving one week for free you’re living pretty good! Lol

I agree it’s location specific, my issue was with absolute statements. Never pull into a closed scale. Never park at a closed scale.

201, gentleroger and Oxbow Thank this.

Fair enough. I guess a fella had better be really good at routings and be a smooth talker if you get pinched by Johnny Law. But no complaints afterwards.

On a similar but still different note what would you do in this scenario?

Some states use rest areas as inspection points with portable scales and all. Has anyone ever been parked at a rest area for their mandatory rest break, gotten woken up by a state trooper, and told you need to move unless you want to be inspected. You're out of hours so the trooper inspects your truck which causes you to restart or split your break and makes you late for a pickup/delivery as a result (even after informing dispatch who refuses to take you off the load, extend the pickup/delivery time, or relay the load). You're employment is then terminated as a result. Has anyone had that happen and what were the results?

I guess it could happen that way.
CVSA guidance to DOT truck inspectors is to not wake up a driver on his break. Though we all know it does happen occasionally.

    Numb Thanks this.

I’ve woken up in rest areas where inspections are happening. I’ve woken up in scales with inspections going on. I’ve never been woken up for an inspection on my truck in either place.

I had a DOT come out of the scale house Tuesday in Minnesota, shaking his finger at me, I had the green to re enter traffic so I didn’t see him, is that some kind of sign language?

I've heard the story, or variations thereof. But let's remember what Mark Twain said "never let the truth get in the way of a good story!"

The truth is usually more "I was illegaly parked in a fake spot and got snotty when told to move, so DOT put me through the ringer".
