Not trying to insult any member with my rant ...
It just peeves me that companies push this type of thinking on drivers - while they are able to purchase millions of dollars worth of contracts on fuel.
If they were providing the miles in the first place, the difference should only be a few hundred dollars off the check every other week - but still with plenty to take home . Not the difference between little and nothing.
There is just a lot more to it, especially if fuel is trending upward, seasonal formulations going into effect, running into California, running into mountains in winter (you better have plenty of fuel if the roads close).
One fuel run out will cost you dearly.
Constant unneeded stops just to fuel will hurt your bottom line long term guaranteed.
You have to take the long view, think in terms of years - just like big companies do. Planning just settlement to settlement is a sure road to bankruptcy.

It did not work with JB Hunt because they do everything different, they did not take payments daily, they did not pay as soon as you scan each trip, so much was different it is like comparing apples and oranges.

Oh darlin believe me, he would never be stupid enough to not fuel up before goin into a high fuel area, or in cold weather, no no no. we are talking in general here. And not the company tellin him to only get so much fuel, they want him to fuel up believe me lol, but he knows better, keep an eye online, make sure he has enough to get to a cheaper area and fillerup there hehehe (if it's on his way through. DART does get many discounts on fuel. Pump price is not DART Price. So we look online and can find where the cheapest will be in the areas he will be near. JB didn't have this feature either. is much easier to know what your pay will be when you can sit down and say........... okay i know my fixed expenses are only 92.40 a day total. now let me add in how much my fuel will cost me......... i get about this many miles per gallon, and my load is paying me this much a mile (empty or loaded) and fuel surcharge sooooooooo here is my pay, we never had hidden expenses with them. always knew what was what.
But get what you mean.
But no, he would never ever lack fueling his truck in those situations. He might be crazy...... but he ain't stupid LOL

seems to be a trend in this country...start a business, run it really good and take care of the drivers, then hand it to the kids or some P.O.S. bean counter and watch the drivers get screwed, and the company run into the ground...exactly what happened to transam when johnny turned the company over to russ mcpinhead and it turned into a flease training company, and arrow- may Dork Peelsticker (Arrow's ceo)rot in hell.

Well here goes my 2 cents I been wit dart for a Lil while now I do make money but however I am in the process of looking else where but what I haven't seen is a driver from dart tell you that all ya have to do is pay 10% of your lease for a deposit to the bank and they will let you move the truck anywhere you want and yes the 10% counts t ward your baloon payment some people like my self don't have good credit so I got my truck with 0 down and was only 11 month lease plus the baloon so if you signed a 60 month lease that your choice in my opinion dart is a great place to get a truck n get the he!! Out don't stick around wish all the luck to everyone

Is the problem with DART, Highway Sales, or a combination of all of the above? If I were to lease with DART, but not go through Highway sales, could a person do OK?

Its not Dart it's every trucking company that lease/purchase trucks to drivers,its every driver that wants to be an OO without working for it. As long as there are suckers willing to buy worn out junk for no money down there will be companies happy to sell to them.

well this must be a dart insider. A manager i would think. 1 no dart does not pay for your plate ,permits ,highway tax,satellite ,escrow,or anything you use to operate a leased truck at dart.2 dart is a solely owned corporation.who disguises all its entity's.they own highway sales prostop and the insurance. Its similar to farm indentured slavery.all parts of any cost dart owns. 3 dart lies at its safety meetings.and i quote."" if you get a ticket.you must fight it and win or reduced to non moving violation." this is a lie.they will decertyfy you fire you ticket one.. And put you out in one day. 4 dart post a bond for insurances .then rips drivers off for highest insurance and liability and workers comp. In all insurance..this corperation is a lie. Most of drivers are not paying any tax state or federal. Please contact minnesota state reps and the attorney general. Have dart made to become a employer. Then unionise them. This corperation is evil and commits criminal breech of contracts. I have initiated a class action suit on dart march 2010. The truth will come out. NO I am not any thing you say.
I've worked for Dart off and no sense 1994, currently off.
The last time they did pay for plate,permits,tolls,and scales.
They can not make you buy insurance from them.
If you bothered to get insurance quotes you would have seen that their bob tail was competitive with most reputable agents.
I had my kw t600 insured at a local agent in Kansas City.
When I got a Columbia I got ins through dart do to their no deductible policy on deer hits.
I pay my taxes as do most business people do.
As a contractor you are responsible for you taxes.
It seems that you are best suited to draw a pay check and not work for your self.
Their are no free lunches in this world. the sooner you learn this the less it will damage you.Dryver Thanks this.
