Scan tool for older 1999 volvo wg 64t

i have a 1999 volvo wg 64t with a volvo d12b engine.

what kind of scan tool works for engine diagnostic codes?

i have a scanner, but it only scans about six parameters and no engine codes. its the same scanner i use on my 2013 kenworth t660, but this same scanner does not do much for this volvo.

i need engine code scanning and i dont get it with my current scanner.
