Too heavy, typical euro Coe would be about 2000lbs overweight on the steers just bobtailing

You can put 20,000 lbs on a front axle if you have the tires for it. Take a look at concrete mixers for example. If a European cabover had 14K on the front axle, just put tires on for that weight rating. All of the US manufacturers have concluded that there is not a large enough cabover market to justify the engineering costs to rework a euro version. I happen to disagree, but that is the thinking at the moment.

If we were allowed conventional tractors with big condo sleepers very few cabovers would be sold for long distance but there'd still be a market for city work, everybody wants a conventional even if they say they don't

In canada at least the weight limit on the steers was 5 tons unless you had a permit and super singles , thought the US was similar ???

My Argosy has almost 12K on the front axle bobtail. Go in and out of all of the Canadian Provinces with no problem. Several friends of mine have conventionals that have 13K+ on the front axle and they also go in and out. As long as the tires are rated for it, you are good to go. An axle is an axle, steer or not.

Thats very interesting because I wanted to get the fifth wheel on my truck moved forward to improve steering on the ice and mud but my safety officer wouldn't allow it saying 5 tons was the limit in Alberta and sask without a special permit...although I never had an off myself Understeer crashes was almost a monthly event at the company, some were down to drivers going too fast but I felt a bit more weight on the steers would have helped enormously as I'm used to euro trucks that are heavier on the front so don't suffer as badly from Understeer, pays to get educated I geuss !

5500 kg anywhere I've been in Canada (NL to AB) and 12,000 lbs in the US. Basically the same thing.
