I'm not comparing the imported 2nd hand under specked for conditions American trucks. These are not allowed to be registered in the country I'm from. There are thousands of them from neighboring countries doing cross border haulage.I am familiar with those JB Hunt, Schneider,Swift Int and freight-liners as well.
They are cheap and have a market where they excel.
If they didn't they would not sell.
The std freightliner or Int produced here is not that cheap $190 000-00 but they are built for heavier work then the std US truck.
Peterbilt were built here but a low spec version imo.
They cost about 10% less than a International/Navistar and it showed.
We had Kenworths assembled locally up till about 10 years ago.
We operated some Kenworth Brutes on heavy work.
Western Star have their main dealership about 2 miles from our depot.
Macks are also still available here.
I run a small fleet and 30% are Paccar products.
It still is only my opinion , but it is an informed one.
I have driven more then 90% of my time in American trucks.

My friend went to scania to get more info on the 730, they guaranteed him 11 mpg at 97,000 lbs. My 580 only does 9 mpg at 97,000, that should keep those blasted tree huggers happy. Yup the v8 sounds really good especially on a long climb and a big load, very smooth too! I'm surprised American trucks don't have them, after all they were invented there and America is considered the home of the v8,

Modern hydraulic retarders don't over heat, the retarder is now combined with the gearbox and service brakes giving automatic downhill speed control, just set the cruise control press the downhill speed button and the truck stays at the required speed up or downhill without as much as lifting your foot or hand all day if you want it to, the automatic gearbox works with the retarder changing gear up or downhill and the truck will automatically apply the service brakes if the retarder can't hold it ( although I've never been on a hill where it didn't)

i agree with you when comparing trucks comparing scania volvo here and pete kw in US is better way but one think i cant understand

how pete/kw can be lot better than other brands since their all have same components

here differences between trucks are larger

in past years scania/volvo were even more distant from other brands

for example when you combine mercedes om403 v10 engine with ZF "90" gearbox which is designed for v8 engines that engine kill that gearbox really soon i know truck that have 4time killed gearbox

engine is only 16.67% stronger than gearbox

but if you have old scania 141 with 10speed range gearbox that gearbox can take lot more torque-load-hp than it is rated for

The v8 was originally designed to be a shorter version of the straight 8 to save room on Cars and being adapted for high volume straight trucks but is was soon realised that they were much smoother than an inline because the opposing pistons balanced themselves out giving less vibration and allowing a different firing sequence, plus two more cylinders give more torque, acceleration and reliability, combine this with the unmistakeable v8 sound and you got yourself a best seller, America is the home of the v8, I thought you guys loved them over there? I didn't think you were a self respecting car lover over there unless you had a v8,

it would be interesting to buy both US and EU volvo and run them together to compare quality here volvo as you know is considered as something at the top of quality

All the cooks also are using the same food products, right? Does it mean all restaurants provide same level of excellence?
