in Russia KW and Peterbilts are not popular too... More expencive parts.
They love 9400 and Century class. ECE standard headlamp for Century class is $10-12 (made in Poland), Cascadia headlamp is over $100!
but really there is small plant of truck body parts in Vladimir, Russia. And they make aftermarket parts for all US and many EU cabins.

The 379 I drive is a dog on diesel, so are the others in the fleet, euro trucks fuel economy is not just driven by emissions but more to the ever increasing price of fuel, wait till fuel hits the price in Europe and I promise Alot if these classics and older trucks will disappear overnight, you won't find many trucks over 8 yrs old in Europe cos more modern fuel efficient ones phase them out very quickly, older ones are generally sent for export,
You may very well have done the journey the same as a merc but mercs are always hard on fuel, it's why they don't sell a huge amount outside germany, new ones are much improved but the ones I had were alcos.
The aerodynamic on this pete leave a lot to be desired but unlike you guys this doesn't need double drive, a more sensible arrangement is needed since this thing never leaves the road, besides this it's like something built in the mid 1500's I absoloutly hate it, it reminds me of driving my uncles old David brown farm tractor, I love the sleeper but that's it, it's not good for the job I'm doing, I wish I could get my old r620 over here.
Yup I know cummins and cat are used in Europe but in #### trucks like foden and erf, I'm not saying by any means they are bad engines but certainly in this type trucks far more thirsty ive been driving both us and euro for over 20 yrs so I have Alot of experience but compared with the new rseries they are miles behind, better for u and your work and terrain, easier to fix and cheaper but in Europe and here in the states the swedes would dance around them, even in Australia when I worked there more and more operators are switching, up to a year and a half ago I drove a 620, it does almost 10 mpg going to Italy on fridges at 44 tonnes this does 30% less with half the weight, that's my point, they drive on similar roads so what's the reason for such a difference? That's a huge cost difference in any country, besides if u are not driving on motorways all the time it's gonna be hard for you to see the difference and trucks over 5-7 years old there wouldn't have been much difference on either side -
If scania really want to create a market for thier trucks they have to sell the longline.
The cabs here look small but every square inch is used for something.jardel Thanks this. -
1. Classic trucks are so belowed because being Owner/Operator used to be true challenge for a real men who would be willing to sacrifice a lot to feed their families - their sons were well introduced into this lifestyle and when they grew up they become truckers like their daddy was. And they wanted the truck to look like the one they remember. Because dad's truck was not only beautiful, it was already tried. It was well tested. In other words, classic trucks are proven for muliti-gen trucker families. It's in the every trucker's son blood. That's why fresh immigrants like Jacko will never understand that - lack of family traditions, lack of knowledge about US trucks - and they will just go buy Volvo (especially if they are from Europe). Look, I'm a immigrant myself but 2nd-Gen and I was at least able to understand this much.
2. there is huge difference in the way how truck driver makes money vs. how owner operator does. If you are driver, you want all the toys possible, all the jingles like lane departure systems or computerized displays telling you oil level - because you don't pay for them nor for keeping them working - someone else does. Obviously, in American reality nobody wants to give you free ride for nothing - so company trucks are cheap and simple pieces of ****. Obviously, every Euro truck driver used to socialist conditions over there would come here and gets beaten into the ground by Schneider or Swift (which they think is perfect employer for some reason) - starts crying and many times start hating everything here. There is solution Jacko - buy yourself own truck and do it your way, I want to see that. You wouldn't survive a year with your Scania here, even if there was service network. You are just born to be truck-driver, not an O/O. These are two different Worlds
But the point about Americans being friendly people was very well made, I will give you thatdieselroarmt875b Thanks this. -
abput approach... yep, owner driven trucks are different....
Company trucks are usually simple. But company drivers skills are usually not so good as owner-drivers and that's why in EU owner driven trucks are usually with manuasl, company trucks are with autos.
I purchased Shnider truck. very simple. so I did some mods, like cabin noise reducion, thermal insolation, Park heater (Webasto Air Top 5000), i put European ECAS, Tachograph, 24V trailer EBS outlet, european headlamps, tank locks, put DVR system in... I reflashed Engine ECM, removed speed limiter, changed bulbs with LEDs, put safe box in cab for docs, installed car alarm system with keyless locks, later I wanna change seats with grammer.... and it is not company truck! Being company driver I'd never do anything like this, but asked managment to install me some toys in! -
Now, just think - if you were able to buy this truck brand new - how many freaking million miles you could put on it? Guy like you would drive it forever - I know a trucker here who bought new Century with Detroit 430 in 1999. Week ago he went past 2,300,000 miles. Truck still looks and runs good -
if you prefer tradition and machoness over functionality, well thats your choice...
give me one aero model that is well recieved by NA truckers?Last edited: Jul 12, 2011
