this is all off road highway construction lot of sharp rocks heavy excavation now and lot of hills they get 200L /100km fuel economy on those spots you have to start in 2H gear or 2L but hard on clutch it is very steep to start and than rev truck up to 2500or how much it can go maximum to be able to get outside of hole

and it is good job they will start to pay for 2.5months

 

Yes my friend, the American classic drivers have it coming too, not caring about the price of diesel is a big mistake, sacrificing for looks and image? Bigger mistake! The price of fuel is the biggest catastropy to hit truckers, I once had almost 40 trucks, I lived well, but then recession and fuel increase, more than double in one year, I now have only one, it's the only way I can make a living and I tell you I am not rich now, once I had a Ferrari 355 now I got a vw golf, wait till you classic American drivers feel the cost is fuel inflation

 

here transport was somehow profitable until 2008 but after than ......

in 2007 one our 4axle tipper earn 30-35000€ of clean money (net income)
same truck in last 2years was in minus before year it have roll over accident about 7000€ for repair of frame and other things ....... now it works seriously maybe something will be ......

but also for me your r580 is not too profitable i would chose r470 e3 or something they are good on fuel

i dont know where did you drive but and what kind of terrain you have but 580 seems to me too much

i have also vw golf all my family drive them now....

 

I do mostly italy, very mountainy terrain, lots of big hills and always 44 tonnes (over that mostly but sshhh) so I need the power, it runs just under 9 mpg so it's not bad a 470 wouldn't do that on these hills, also I drive it myself so I got the power to enjoy it hehe, what about these 730? 11mpg on this work, that's something eh?

 

On the contrary it is all about money, your truck is a work tool, nothing more, if it can't do the job efficiently then its you and your family that pay the price, I promise you when diesel hits our prices you will change your tune, imagine paying 3000 to put diesel in Ure truck and your tanks are even bigger, could be 4000, nevermind tho, at least the classic will look great outside the house cos you won't be able to afford to drive it anywhere, don't just take it from me but a few of the eastern countries here that are feeling it too

And another thing, u reckon American trucks are better than the new scanias? Well how the f@£@ do u know? You don't is the answer, you haven't a clue ! Ure so busy being a classic trucker ( Eventhough u are only doing it a few years, a wet week as we say here) your no pain no game attitude? Also I found a couple of American guys who drove scanias, I found them on this thread, here's one of them what he said was typical of an American view of them :What is the point of 730bhp when the truck is restricted to 56mph (90kph) as Euro law dictates?
I have driven a V8 Scania in Europe allthough it was the 14ltr version rated at 460bhp (a 1998 Scania 144 topline). The engineering was awesome. Driving comfort was really good and included air ride on the steer axle but it is true that the European cabs are just too small. There is a narrow bunk (by North American standards) behind the seats and the original Topline Scania had another bunk above the windshield!
They have improved Alot since then, I wonder what he would think of a new one

 

You guys are funny, you think we are not aware whats going on? Or maybe you think we are blind? You are just stuck in socialist regime, Eurozone is nothing different than another communist revolution done by same sort of people who did it hundred years ago - it's you who are blind and didn't see it coming. US is under attack as well, that's why we love our old trucks. Because its good to have a job and reliable piece of equipment that is long paid for. Fuel mileage is not that important - its the truck & trailer payments plus incredible downtime/shop costs that put people out of business.

Look, I was driving Volvos long enough to learn they don't come with any important advantage over US aero trucks. You can love your Scania all you want - but it's not going to much better than Volvo, same with trucks here they don't vary much, it's all in the driver' mind. We get used to them and like them or hate for little things. Thats all

Seems to me you guys have some other mental problems, I'm not going to waste my time on s*** like that. Just remember, US is not about money, its about having good life. Poor countries are about money, because its impossible to make any and people never get to higher needs. Higher needs is good neighbour, warm house and family taken care of. Classic truck is only hobby - true luxury, toy. It used to be that hard working trucker could make it that far, no big deal. That's why we still have them classics on the road, W900 sales is 7% in all KW line. Quit worry about us here, look after yourself
