I didn't find the 4 series cab that bad, I think the driving position was really good, everything including the gearstick was adjustable, 32mm 2 leaf front springs made them very comfy, I always specced 2 man design, that means u didn't get the rubbish bottom bunk, centre box or the rattly fold out table, king of the road spec was also good in 2 man spec, they would have been alot better with the 2 bunks at the back I agree but scania was expecting a change in the law , it was supposed to be changed to if there's a 2 man crew the truck didn't have to stop for 9 hours as long as the second driver slept out of sight of the driver

Rumours say that 780 will be released in a couple of weeks. I wonder where the Americans are, still at 625?
-
In a few weeks? Cool! I heard an 800 hp is also on the cards

Just been chatting with an Australian guy on another forum, he tells me that he runs mostly kw's but recently got a 2006 scania r580,his first scania, he says the cat 600 hp engine only produces the same torque as the scanias 580 and the scania would just about outpull the kw on steep climbs, why is that? He says he's converted given the scania is so comfy in comparison too !
I've a question for you, my friend runs a couple of r620's on heavy haul work, he's talking about chipping them for more power and fuel economy which is currently about 5.5 to 7 mpg depending on the weight which could be up to 80 tons but rarely less than 50 tons, I'm not a fan of chipping the engines, I notice the turbo is tiny on them also, what would you recommend to do to these? -
Chipping is OK if the man doing the mapping knows what he is doing. Unfortunately many of them just add fuel and that's it. They don't do anything to timing and other parameters.
We've had good success with marine injectors in 16 liter engines. Advantage is quicker injection which keeps the temps down and gains some fuel mileage. They give maybe 100-120 hp more and better response.
Turbo is quite small but modern engines don't need as much air as older ones so it's good for something like 750-800 hp.
Almost forgot: the first thing he should do is get rid of the ad-blue system by programming or add-on module, then pull the catalyst out of the can to let engine breath freely. Backpressure is killing those Garrett turbos and causing high EGTs.king Q Thanks this. -

Question? What motor you guys talking about? I'm reading and either I missed it or it wasn't written down. Thanks as this thread is a good read.

Scania 16 litre v8 620 hp,Gasienica Thanks this.

Only the tips, in Finland it's 1500-2000 euros including labour.
Yes backpressure and heat is blowing gaskets.Scania man Thanks this. -
i think you are pretty unreal about that
this cab is released in 1995 and at that moment was one of best cabs on market
if we compare it to volvo fh cab from first serie it is at least twice better, just remember how bad was cab of first actros
or compare it with some iveco like eurotech star and similar .......Last edited: Nov 2, 2011
Scania man Thanks this.
