Looked at Scania's site as well & noticed they have 33 U.S. dealers in their network. Are they really going to try to introduce trucks in the U.S.? 730 hp V-8 diesel?
Scania, Volvo, Mercedes vs American trucks. How can you stand them?

We have automatics as well but I don't like them either...Some fleets over here use them but all they seem to accomplish is allowing less qualified people get behind the wheel of a truck.[/QUOTE]
Ya right, it really takes a genius to learn to shift.Spochen Thanks this. -
I work for big company, that has a fleet of 500 semis. A half are Mercedes Actros MP-II with 440 hp OM 501LA V6 engine, other are Volvo FH12 with various vesrions of D12 from A to D and 100 trucks with D13A enines. Hoursepower versions from 380 to 420.
So I used to drive all these trucks))) I'm technician.
Sometimes I have business trips to different companies and they say that US market is still ready to start working there, but.. their plans were deleyed with global recession. Volvo truck nearly stoped assembly plant in Gent, Belgium.
Anyway they think they may have market perspectives like in Australia. My GF's sister and her husband moved to Melbourn and they say that there are all US and EU truck brands there, plus Japanese Mitsubisi Fuso, and some Chinise brands related with Volvo and Dimler like Hino, DongFeng, and of cource FAW.
Five years ago Scania built hood designed trucks, and later they were discontinued. EU cabine is not so safe and in countries w/o legal speed governor they concider it dangerouse and they work on projrct of cabin over engine truck with hood.
Concept looks too futuristic....
The 2002 concept was more unusual
Ouh! seems to me there are many ideas of global truck. But seems to me they will be different.
BTW, seems to me there are no so many members who used to drive and repare both US and EU trucks. About half of imported to Russia trucks are from US, and about 20% impotted to Ukraine trucks are from the USA. So I know advantages and disadvantages of them. Yeah, sometimes I have crazy ideas to put some components of EU truck on tought US chassis with roomly cabine. But it is a lot of time, and time is $$$Last edited by a moderator: Oct 17, 2010

people dont stay for weeks 90% of european truck driving are in circle of 300 miles...... -
Our trucks run from Siberia to France. That's why we have Mercedes with Megaspace cabines (size like on Freightliner Argosy) and Volvo FH with Globbetrotter. Anyway US sleepers are better. In EU there are many rest areas, in Russia rest areas are not good enought and in East are very far one from other. May be that's why a half of semi's in Russia are imported from US
