I been where you at many many years ago,its normal for a New driver to be nervous. In order to be able to operate that TRUCK U need to be 100% in CONTROL.Its not just your LIFE u have in your HANDS but HUNDREDS of other people,Not trying to make you more NERVOUS or anything just being honest with you.STOPPING AT EVERY CONE AND NOT RUNNING OVER ANY CONE IS PARAMOUNT TO YOUR SUCCESS IN THIS INDUSTRY.The REASON Being even THO there ORANGE in color ACTUALLY REPRESENT REAL LIFE HUMAN BEINGS,BUILDINGS,CARS,KIDS,.HAD you been in a REAL LIFE SCENARIO by yourself OUT THERE ON THE ROAD AND GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT BY NOT STOPPING YO CDL CAREER WOULD BE OBER IN A FLASH --TECHNICALLY you would have RUN OVER SOMEONE AT THE STOP SIGN OR REDLIGHT BY NOT STOPPING.THATS THE REASON WHY YOU FAILED THE TEST.its nothing PERSONAL But you need to get inside your MIND u are a operating 80,000 heavy piece of MACHINERY,THATS OVER 73 FEET LONG...ONCE YOU GET THAT "IM IN TOTAL CONTROL OF THIS EQUIPMENT AND MUST DO SO EVERYDAY" MENTALITY you will be JUST FINE.
Next time you take yourself and get in the SEAT ..RELAX YOU MUST BE RELAXED OTHERWISE YOUR GOING TO SCREW UP.U REALLY DIDNT DO TO BAD,JUST REMEMBER NEXT TIME TO STOP BY THE CONES AND DONT HIT ANY.THE DMV TESTER DONT WORRY BOUT HIM,HE OR SHE JUST WANTS TO SEE THAT YOU CAN SAFELY MANEUVER THAT TRUCK AND HAVE COMPLETE CONTROL AND OBEY THE TRAFFIC LAWS.Don't worry you will do just FINE,Once you get it YOU WILL WALK THRU THE REST WITH NOPROBLEM,as far as shifting if your not comfortable enough maybe try and find someone who has a truck that will let you pay a few bucks to REFAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH IT..but TRUCKING ISNT A GAME..ITS REAL LIFE AND YOUBHAVE TO PAY ATTENTION.My motto is "EITHER YOU PAY ATTENTION-OR END UP PAYING TOOO MUCH".take your time EVERYTHIJG WILL FALL IN ITS RIGHTFUL PLACE..REMEMBER YOU ARE IN CONTROL DO NOT...I REPEAT DO NOT LET ANYONE RUSH YOU,PUSH YOU OR MAKE YOU DRIVE RECKLESSY.DONT OULL OUT INFRONT ANY ONE,WAIT IN THIS BHSINESS YOU MUST..I REPEAT YOU MUST HAVE PATIENCE.WHEN IN DOUBT GET OUT AND WALK AROUND ASSESS THE SITUATION IF U NEED HELP FIND SOMEONE TO SPOT YOU IF NEED BE UNTIL U ARE 100 % COMFORTABLE.WISH H BEST AND BE SAFE
Scared nervous and just a big mess!

It took me to 7th time to pass. Don't let it get to you. I was nervous and scared too. Don't let money, unemployment etc enter your mind while testing, stay focused, and if you have to pay off the tester. Lol jk of course, or am I?? Lol
TruckDuo, Milkman719 and snjtrucker Thank this. -
Time is running out and believe me I fully understand you being nervous. What I would suggest is beg and plead with your school to give you an instructor that can help you one on one.My school did.We worked from morning till night just him and I on my alley dock.I would also suggest going to a trk stop or anywhere semis gather and ask for tips and advice from drivers. It took me 4 times before I passed but I didn't have to wait 10 days between tests either.
Bry, briarhopper and snjtrucker Thank this. -
I was nervous but i definitely was not scared. Perhaps nature is trying to tell you something? I don't rock climb or belong to elite killing squads in the military for good reason: fear. Even if i wanted to do those things, i would probably end up getting myself killed.
snjtrucker Thanks this. -
Wow thanks to all of you for your nice and thoughtful remarks. It feels good to be supported. And all of your advice I will take to heart and will try my best. I do hop to post here on saturday to say I passed the test. If not ill pass the next one. But one thing is for sure. I made the right choice.

I'm sure you will do just fine. Have a nice cold glass of milk. what's the worst thing that can happen? If you fail just Retest the real test happens after you get your CDL and have to navigate bad drivers. Good Luck!

now these are the OP"s own words....
So we show up after not driving for a week and I am shifting like it was my first day and Im totally psyched out not to mention my school instructor intimidates the crap out of me to the point of my legs shaking and brain farts. I did so bad today my buddy was like hey man im worried your gonna pass Saturday.
he forgot the basics after only a few days....I really don't care to hear "your story" , it has nothing to do with the topic...and your assessment of my assessment ..is your opinion... But , after my 30 + years behind the wheel and your 3...well I'll let the OP decide for himself...I was respectful , honest...didn't call him any stupid names or be in any way derogatory.... I told him what I truly believed he needed to hear.....this industry doesn't need someone who get's scared , or nervous behind the wheel....it makes no difference whether it's a 30 year vet , or a 3 year rookie.....I appreciate your opinion though...just don't agree...Happy Trails stevep1977GenericUserName Thanks this. -
If you get uptight while taking the test, just imagine the examiner naked. Try not to laugh out loud. Or throw up a little in your mouth, depending on who you get.
snjtrucker Thanks this. -
That's what it's all about support from all your brother and sister truckers and determination. You can do this,I have faith you'll pass.
snjtrucker, Milkman719, John's Girl and 1 other person Thank this.
